Our review: Anycubic Kobra S1

Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score

Cheaper right now: another listing of the Anycubic Kobra S1 at £589.99. Check what is in the box, as listings often differ by bundle.

Verdict: An enclosed, fast CoreXY printer with a 320°C hotend, sold alone or with an ACE Pro unit that adds four-colour printing and filament drying. When it works it is excellent value, but published reviews describe feeding problems and at least one unit that needed replacing.

Ease of use
10 / 10
Technical difficulty: Low
Reliability indicator
5.6 / 10
From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
Upsides
  • Enclosed CoreXY with a 250 × 250 × 250 mm build volume
  • 320°C nozzle and 120°C bed for a wide range of materials
  • Combo versions add the ACE Pro: four-colour printing plus filament drying up to 55°C
  • LeviQ 3.0 automatic levelling with vibration compensation, a quick-swap hotend and run-out detection
  • Built-in camera and a 4.3-inch touchscreen
Downsides
  • Reviewers report the ACE Pro can jam or fail to detect filament
  • Some units needed firmware updates, or replacement, before working reliably
  • Every colour change purges filament, adding waste and time
  • Several bundles share the name, which makes listings easy to confuse

Best for: Buyers who want an enclosed multi-colour printer for less than the premium brands, and will use support and firmware updates if needed.
Look elsewhere if: You want the most proven, least troublesome multi-colour printer and will pay more for it.

Who it suits

The Kobra S1 was Anycubic’s first enclosed multi-colour CoreXY printer, going on pre-sale in January 2025 and aimed squarely at buyers comparing it with far pricier printers. It suits people who want enclosure, speed and colour on a budget, and who are comfortable updating firmware and contacting support if something goes wrong.

Setting it up

On paper it ticks every item on our ease-of-use checklist: automatic LeviQ 3.0 levelling with vibration compensation, a quick-swap hotend, run-out detection, app control, a built-in camera and a 4.3-inch touchscreen. That is why it scores 10.

Printing with it

A 320°C nozzle, a 120°C bed and an enclosure give it a wide material range, including ABS and ASA. See enclosed vs open frame. Combo versions add the ACE Pro, which feeds four spools and doubles as a filament dryer, heating to 55°C. Newer bundles pair the printer with the ACE 2 Pro instead. As with every single-nozzle system, colour changes purge filament: see whether multi-colour is worth it.

The reliability question

This is where the Kobra S1 loses ground. Creative Bloq’s reviewer ran into one problem after another and only got a working printer after Anycubic replaced it, and reviewers describe the ACE Pro jamming or failing to detect filament. Other reviews are far more positive, and firmware updates fixed some early faults, such as a camera that would not connect. We deduct half a point for each documented problem, and the model is still young, so its track-record score is low.

Is today’s price a good deal?

Check exactly which bundle a listing is: printer only, with ACE Pro, or with ACE 2 Pro. They sit at very different prices. Compare the printer-only price with the Bambu Lab P1S and ELEGOO Centauri Carbon, and the combos with the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo, in our review table.
