Our review: Anycubic Photon Mono 4 Ultra

Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score

Cheaper right now: another listing of the Anycubic Photon Mono 4 Ultra at £249.00. Check what is in the box, as listings often differ by bundle.

Verdict: The Photon Mono 4’s sharp 10K screen with most of the conveniences it lacks: Wi-Fi, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, resin level and residue detection, and faster printing. Levelling is still manual, and there is no vat heating or camera.

Ease of use
3 / 10
Technical difficulty: High
Reliability indicator
5.9 / 10
From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
Upsides
  • 7-inch 10K screen (9024 × 5120) for 17 µm detail
  • Wi-Fi printing from Photon Workshop, with Anycubic Cloud progress and error notifications
  • Detects low resin and cured residue left in the vat
  • Up to 120 mm/h with its ACF release film
  • 4.3-inch touchscreen
Downsides
  • Manual four-point build plate levelling
  • No vat heating, air filter or camera
  • Reviewers note the supplied ACF film favours speed and can cost some surface quality
  • Automatic supports in Photon Workshop need checking by hand
  • 153 × 87 × 165 mm build volume suits miniatures, not large parts

Best for: Miniature makers who like the Mono 4 but want Wi-Fi, quicker prints and warnings before a print fails.
Look elsewhere if: You want automatic levelling, a heated vat for a cold room, or large parts.

Who it suits

Announced alongside the Photon Mono 4 in September 2024, the Ultra keeps the same sharp 10K screen and build volume and adds the features that make day-to-day resin printing smoother. It suits miniature makers who want more convenience than the basic Mono 4 without a much bigger printer.

Why it scores 3 for ease of use

Against the Mono 4, the Ultra adds Wi-Fi with cloud notifications, a larger 4.3-inch touchscreen, and detection of low resin and leftover cured residue, which prevents some of the most common failed prints. That lifts its score from 1 to 3.

It still levels manually at four points, and has no vat heating, air filter or camera. With the 2-point resin workflow deduction, that is a High difficulty rating. Levelling is an occasional job rather than a per-print one, but a first-time resin buyer should know it is there. Compare the self-levelling ELEGOO Mars 5 Ultra if that matters.

Printing with it

The 7-inch 10K screen resolves detail at 17 µm. It ships with ACF release film, which helps it reach 120 mm per hour, but reviewers note the trade-off can be some loss of surface quality. Photon Workshop’s automatic supports also need checking by hand before printing. Without vat heating, keep it somewhere reasonably warm.

Living with it

Budget for gloves, a wash and cure setup and replacement release film. See when to replace the release film and water-washable vs standard resin.

Is today’s price a good deal?

The Ultra is worth its premium over the Mono 4 if you will use Wi-Fi and resin detection every week. If the gap is small, it is the better buy; if it is large, the Mono 4 prints the same detail. Compare both, and the Mars 5 Ultra, in our review table.
