Our review: Bambu Lab P1S
Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score
Cheaper right now: another listing of the Bambu Lab P1S at £359.00. Check what is in the box, as listings often differ by bundle.
Verdict: A polished, enclosed CoreXY printer that handles ABS and ASA almost as easily as PLA, backed by very mature software. It lacks a touchscreen and tool-free nozzle swaps, which costs it ease-of-use points rather than print quality.
8 / 10 Technical difficulty: Low
7.7 / 10 From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
- Enclosed CoreXY with a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume, suited to ABS and ASA as well as PLA and PETG
- Automatic bed levelling and vibration compensation
- Built-in chamber camera for checking prints and recording timelapses
- Filament run-out sensor, and an optional AMS for multi-colour printing
- Mature, well-supported Bambu Studio and Bambu Handy software
- Small 2.7-inch monochrome screen with buttons, not a touchscreen
- Changing nozzle size means replacing the hotend assembly rather than a tool-free clip
- The stock stainless steel nozzle is not suited to abrasive carbon-fibre or glass-filled filaments
- The camera runs at a very low frame rate: fine for checking a print, not for live viewing
- Closely tied to Bambu’s own software and cloud
Best for: Buyers who want an enclosed, fast, dependable printer for a wide range of materials, and value polished software over tinkering.
Look elsewhere if: You want a touchscreen and quick nozzle changes, or plan to print abrasive filled filaments without upgrading the nozzle.

Who it suits
The P1S is the printer many people buy once they know they want an enclosure. It takes the hands-off Bambu experience and puts it inside a closed CoreXY frame, so ABS and ASA, which warp in open air, become routine rather than a project.
Setting it up
It arrives assembled and calibrates itself, levelling the bed and measuring its vibrations so it can print quickly without ringing. You control it from Bambu Studio on a computer or the Bambu Handy app on a phone. On the printer itself there is only a small 2.7-inch monochrome screen with buttons, which is fine once everything runs through the app, but less friendly than a touchscreen when you are standing at the machine.
Printing with it
The 256 mm build volume covers nearly everything a home user prints, and the CoreXY motion keeps tall prints steady at speed. See bed-slinger vs CoreXY. The enclosure helps ABS and ASA; for PLA, owners commonly open the lid or door to stop heat building up. See enclosed vs open frame.
The supplied nozzle is stainless steel. That is fine for PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS and ASA, but abrasive filaments filled with carbon fibre or glass will wear it quickly, so they need a hardened steel upgrade. See hardened vs brass nozzles.
Living with it
The chamber camera is useful for checking a print has not failed, but at 0.5 frames per second it is a slideshow rather than a live view. Nozzle changes mean swapping the hotend assembly, a small job but not the tool-free clip newer printers offer. That, and the button-driven screen, are the two points that hold the P1S at 8 rather than 10 on our ease-of-use checklist; the camera, slow as it is, still earns its point.
As with every Bambu printer, the experience is designed around Bambu’s own software and cloud: excellent if you want things to just work, restrictive if you like to modify.
Is today’s price a good deal?
The P1S is sold alone and as an AMS combo, so check which version a listing is before comparing prices. Its closest rivals in our reviews are the Flashforge Adventurer 5M Pro and the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon; compare all three in the review table, then check the price history on this page.
