Our review: Creality Ender 3 V3 SE
Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score
Verdict: One of the cheapest full-size printers worth considering, with automatic levelling and Z-offset that remove the classic Ender first-layer headaches. Everything else is basic: some assembly, no Wi-Fi, no run-out sensor and a knob-driven screen.
2 / 10 Technical difficulty: High
5.1 / 10 From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
- CR Touch bed levelling plus a strain sensor that sets the Z-offset automatically
- Sprite direct-drive extruder handles PLA, PETG and flexible TPU
- 220 × 220 × 250 mm build volume for a very low price
- Automatic filament loading and unloading
- Up to 250 mm/s, far quicker than older Ender models
- Arrives part-built: Creality quotes about 20 minutes of assembly
- No Wi-Fi or network printing as standard
- No filament run-out sensor, so an empty spool can silently ruin a long print
- Knob-driven screen rather than a touchscreen
- Open frame and a 260°C nozzle limit it to everyday materials
Best for: Tight budgets and hands-on learners who want a full-size 220 mm printer and do not mind some setup.
Look elsewhere if: You want app control, a printer that warns you when filament runs out, or a first print without assembly.

Who it suits
The Ender 3 is the printer a generation of hobbyists learned on, and the V3 SE is its budget modern form. It is for people who want a full-size printer for as little money as possible and are happy to learn a little about how it works along the way.
Why it scores 2 for ease of use
The V3 SE gets the single most important feature right: it levels its bed automatically with a CR Touch probe, then sets the Z-offset with a strain sensor, so you never adjust the first-layer gap by hand. That is a big step up from older Enders, and it earns the full 2 points for levelling.
Nothing else on our checklist is there. It arrives part-built, with Creality quoting about 20 minutes of assembly. There is no Wi-Fi, no run-out sensor, no camera, no tool-free nozzle and no touchscreen. A score of 2 and a High difficulty rating are an honest reflection of how much of the work falls to you, not a verdict on print quality, which published reviews found good for the price.
Printing with it
The Sprite direct-drive extruder handles PLA, PETG and flexible TPU well, and automatic filament loading saves some fiddling. The nozzle tops out at 260°C and the frame is open, so ABS, ASA and engineering materials are not its territory. See enclosed vs open frame.
Without a run-out sensor, check there is enough filament on the spool before starting a long print. Reviewers also found the spool holder a little wobbly at full speed.
Living with it
As a bed-slinger it needs clearance front and back. Assembly is straightforward, but take care to build the gantry square: see belts and layer shifts for the kind of problems a slightly out-of-true frame causes.
Is today’s price a good deal?
The V3 SE only makes sense while it is clearly cheaper than the fully automatic printers above it. If the gap to the Bambu Lab A1 mini is small, most beginners will be happier with the A1 mini. Compare them in our review table, and check this page’s price history.
