Our review: Anycubic Kobra 3 Max
Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score
Verdict: A genuinely huge 420 × 420 × 500 mm printer at a mid-range price, with automatic levelling, vibration compensation and a lever-release nozzle. It needs gantry assembly, its camera is an optional extra, and as a giant bed-slinger it takes a lot of room.
7 / 10 Technical difficulty: Medium
6.6 / 10 From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
- 420 × 420 × 500 mm build volume, the largest in our reviews
- Automatic levelling and G-sensor vibration compensation
- Quick-release nozzle slides out with a lever, without unplugging anything
- Wi-Fi and LAN, with app control and remote monitoring
- Combo versions add the ACE Pro for multi-colour printing
- The gantry needs assembling, and reviewers warn some screw holes strip easily
- The camera is an optional extra
- A giant bed-slinger needs a lot of space front and back
- Reviewers found bed adhesion a little unreliable without glue or a plate upgrade
- Closed firmware, with no access to configuration files
Best for: Cosplayers, prop makers and anyone who wants to print helmets and large parts in one piece, and has the space.
Look elsewhere if: You are short of space, want to print ABS or ASA, or want a compact everyday printer.

Who it suits
The Kobra 3 Max exists for one reason: size. At 420 × 420 × 500 mm, it prints helmets, large props and big enclosures in one piece. For cosplayers and prop makers that can save hours of splitting and gluing. For everyone else, read how big a build volume you need first, because a printer this large has real costs.
Setting it up
It arrives in parts, and the gantry has to be assembled. Reviewers warn that bolts are easy to drop behind the carriage and that some plastic screw holes strip if overtightened, so take it slowly. That costs it 2 points on our ease-of-use checklist, and the optional camera costs another, for a score of 7.
Once built, it levels itself and runs G-sensor vibration compensation, and it connects over Wi-Fi or LAN to Anycubic’s app for remote control and monitoring. The nozzle is a genuine tool-free design: a lever releases it without unplugging the heater or sensor.
Printing with it
Anycubic lists PLA, PETG, ABS and TPU 95A. It is an open-frame printer, so large ABS parts in particular will warp, and PLA and PETG are the realistic choices at this size. Reviewers found bed adhesion a little unreliable, easily fixed with glue stick or a better build plate. See bed adhesion: what actually works. Combo versions add the ACE Pro for multi-colour printing, with the usual purge waste.
Living with it
As a bed-slinger, a 420 mm plate travels a long way, so it needs far more depth than its footprint suggests. Tom’s Hardware notes the firmware is closed, with no access to configuration files. There are no documented recalls or widely confirmed faults, so no deductions, but it has only been on sale since 2025.
Is today’s price a good deal?
Check whether a listing is the printer alone or a Combo with the ACE Pro. If you do not need the size, a 256 mm printer such as the Bambu Lab A1 costs less, takes less room and heats faster. Compare them in our review table.
