Our review: Anycubic Photon Mono 4
Desk research, not hands-on testing: specifications, independent reviews, documented issues and buyer data. Both scores are calculated from the inputs listed below. How we score
Verdict: A very sharp, very affordable way into resin printing, with a 10K screen that resolves 17 µm detail. It is basic, though: levelling is manual, files go by USB, and every print needs washing and curing, which is why its ease-of-use score is low.
1 / 10 Technical difficulty: High
5.8 / 10 From buyer ratings, track record and known issues
- 7-inch 10K screen (9024 × 5120) for 17 µm detail, ideal for miniatures
- LighTurbo light source designed for even exposure across the plate
- Prints at up to 70 mm of height per hour
- Arrives assembled, with a simple 2.8-inch touchscreen
- A low price for resin-level detail
- Manual four-point build plate levelling
- No Wi-Fi: print files transfer by USB
- No vat heating, resin level sensing, air filter or camera
- 153 × 87 × 165 mm build volume suits miniatures, not large parts
- Every print needs washing, curing, gloves and ventilation
Best for: Miniature painters and model makers who want maximum detail for the money and are comfortable with a hands-on, gloves-on workflow.
Look elsewhere if: You want tough practical parts, a mess-free hobby, or a printer children can use.

Who it suits
The Photon Mono 4 is for people who want detail above all else: tabletop miniatures, figures, busts and small display models. Its 10K screen resolves features at 17 µm, far finer than any filament printer can manage, at a price that makes resin printing an easy experiment rather than a big commitment.
It is one of several resin printers in our reviews. If you are not sure resin is for you, read FDM vs resin first.
Why the ease-of-use score is low
Our resin checklist looks for the features that make resin printing less hands-on, and the Mono 4 is deliberately basic. The build plate is levelled by hand at four points. Files go across on a USB stick rather than Wi-Fi. There is no vat heating, resin level sensing, air filter or camera. On top of that, every resin printer carries a 2-point deduction for washing, curing, gloves and ventilation.
None of that says anything about print quality, which is this printer’s strength. It says that you will be doing more of the work yourself, and a High difficulty rating is an honest warning for a first-time buyer.
Printing with it
Levelling is a one-off job done with a sheet of paper, and repeated only occasionally. The LighTurbo light source is designed to expose the whole plate evenly, which matters when printing a plate full of miniatures. The 153 × 87 × 165 mm build volume holds a good number of small models at once, but it is not a printer for large parts.
Without vat heating, room temperature matters. Resin is thicker when cold, and a chilly garage in a British winter can cause failed prints, so plan for somewhere reasonably warm.
Living with it
Budget for the extras: nitrile gloves, isopropyl alcohol or water-washable resin, a way to cure prints, and replacement vat film over time. Handle and dispose of uncured resin carefully. See resin safety, ventilation and disposal, whether a wash and cure station is worth it and water-washable vs standard resin.
Is today’s price a good deal?
Check the model name carefully: the Mono 4 Ultra is a different, more expensive printer that adds Wi-Fi and a larger screen. For the standard Mono 4, the price history on this page shows whether today’s price is genuinely low.
